Can you give me some information about each freshmen dorm?

Brittany - The rooms in Brittany are larger than all the other freshmen dorm rooms. It is slightly father away from Washington Square than the other traditional style dorms. Brittany does not have a dining hall.
Goddard - Goddard is very close to Silver (the general classroom building). It is above Starbucks. Goddard is typically considered a very nice dorm. Students are usually not able to choice Goddard as a choice for their residence hall because it is usually just for Explorations floors. Goddard does not have a dining hall.
Hayden - Hayden is across Washington Square Park. Many people claim that Hayden is the best dorm because of the view. However, the rooms that have a good view are the ones that are quads or very small. Therefore, it would probably be better to not have a good view in Hayden. There many quads, few triples, a decent amount of doubles, and three singles on lower floors only. Hayden has air-conditioned rooms. Hayden has a dining hall.
Rubin - Rubin is on 5th avenue, not too far from Silver. The rooms are well sized. Rubin also has a dining hall.
Weinstein - The rooms in Weinstein are the smallest of all the freshmen dorms. The walls are made of cinder blacks. However, it is in a prime location with three dining halls.

Note: I am not very familiar with the apartment-style dorms (University Hall and Third North). If you have specific questions on these dorms, please e-mail me at my address above and I will try to get them answered for you. Back to Top

Do all rooms have their own bathroom?

Yes, they do. Every dorm at NYU does. Back to Top

What is Explorations?

Explorations floors are special floors in each residence hall with a special theme, which is meant to encourage "intellectual enhancement." In order to be on an exporations floor, you must apply for it when you apply for housing. For more information, visit NYU's Explorations website: http://www.nyu.edu/residential.education/community/explorations.html. Back to Top

What is the difference between traditional-style and apartment-style?

Traditional style dorms (Brittany, Goddard, Hayden, Rubin, Weinstein) are standard sized rooms, usually housing two people.
Apartment style dorms (Third Avenue North, University Hall) have two doubles with a common room and a small kitchen area. These dorms are further away from the campus area. Back to Top

Do all the dorms have heating?

Yes. Even though some dorms do not have air-conditioning, they all have heating. Back to Top

What is a low-cost triple (LCT)?

A low-cost triple is the same size of a double-sized room (or slightly larger) and houses three people. It is a lower-cost option. However, even if you choose to live in a low-cost triple, your choice cannot be guaranteed. Back to Top

Am I guaranteed housing for all four years at NYU?

You are only guaranteed housing throughout your whole career at NYU if you remain in on-campus housing for the whole time. For instance, if you choose to live off-campus for one semester, you will not be guaranteed to be able to return to NYU housing. Studying abroad is a special exception to this rule. Back to Top

How is the security in the dorms? Do people steal things?

All dorms have 24-hour security guards. No one is allowed to enter the building with being signed in by a resident. The dorms tend to be very secure but theft does occur occasionally. It is important to keep your door locked when you are not in your room. Back to Top

What are the guest policies?

Residents may sign-in up to three guests for non-overnight visits at any time. Each resident is limited to six guest overnight stays per month, and no more than three consecutive nights. Roommate approval is required for any overnight guest. Back to Top

Do you have any pictures of your room?
