Small Distance Squad Competes at Princeton
The NYU Men's Track Team took a small group of athletes to Princeton on Friday to run the distance events at the Carl Howell Invitational. Leading the way was Vinnie Zarrillo, whose time of 30:48 in the 10k place fifth in the meet and also moved him into fifth position on the D3 National Preliminary Qualifiers list. Zarrillo achieved the mark with even 5k splits of 15:20 and 15:27.
Freshman Ryan Williams and Sophomore James McCarthy ran the 5k and each posted personal bests. Williams ran 14:51 and McCarthy ran 15:26.
The full men's squad will compete at the New York Metropolitan Championships this coming weekend.
Rain Alters Maryland Invite
A severe thunderstorm and heavy rain forced the cancellation of the Terrapin Invitational track and field meet after the completion of just five events.
Only Brian Brian Buechel (3000m steeple - 9:50) and Mike Petrouka (5k - 16:30) competed in their scheduled events. The team returns to action next week for the Princeton Invitational.
