I am interested in words, their meaning, how we understand them and how we use them.
I enjoy biking in the city, dancing and beer but I try not to combine them all at once.
My current work looks at detailing a spatiotemporal processing model of complex word recognition, specifically compound words. Here, I would like to understand how morphological decomposition and composition work together and see what happens when they do not play nice.
I am interested in the verbal morphology of African American Vernacular English (AAVE) and how it interfaces with the syntax. Tangentially, I am interested in black gay culture and its language usage. I am currently working on a discursive dictionary of (new) words.
I am also interested in memory encoding of words. I would like to understand how words are stored in the brain, how new words are learned and stored and how it integrates with the existing lexicon.
I love to travel. In 2007, I backpacked across Germany, France, and Italy.
Summer (2010), I went backpacking across Brazil. I traveled to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Salvador de Bahia. Here I'm at the top of Pão de Açúcar.
This past summer (2011), I backpacked across Europe again: UK, France, Switzerland, Italy, and Spain.
In April (2012) I will be traveling to Abu Dhabi.
I pass my free time with ballroom dancing. I concentrate mostly in Latin dancing: Samba, Cha Cha, Rumba, and Jive. I'm currently taking lessons from Oksana Zolotarevskaya at Manhattan Ballroom Dance.
